Bespoke jewellery remodelling

Remodelling antique or heirloom jewellery to reflect your personal style and story is a wonderful way to create a truly unique piece, and a future heirloom. Whether it’s a piece you no longer wear or a desire for a more contemporary style, I can work with you to create a new piece you’ll cherish.

At Eli Speaks, we can make necklaces, rings, bracelets and pendants incorporating precious metals and gemstones from heirloom jewellery.

The remodelling jewellery process

An in-person consultation is the best place to start. Here we can assess your old gold, silver and platinum pieces, loose gemstones, or broken items that no longer serve their purpose.

The best metals to work with for melting down, are the yellow golds. So your 18ct, 14ct, and 9ct yellow golds are most likely to melt well. We can discuss options for other precious metals, including scrap trade-ins to put the cash towards your new piece.

There is a non-refundable melting fee of $200 for melting your metal. This is for the labour time in cleaning, removing gems, working out ratios, melting, sometimes numerous times, to refine your metals to a point where I can begin making the new piece.

Gemstones are checked for quality and suitability. Some gems might need repolishing before we use them. The utmost care is taken to ensure your precious gems come out unscathed and glowing in their new housing, but there can be unseen issues with pre-loved gems. If you have a valuable gem, we recommend taking out separate insurance cover before any work is started.

Every handmade piece is designed in consultation with you, incorporating special touches to tell your particular stories.

Once your design has been settled on, we do the usual 50% deposit to get to work making your exciting new piece. The remainder is paid on completion.

The timeframe is usually 3-6 weeks for your re-imagined jewellery to come to life.

“I can't recommend Kate enough. Great communication and very talented. Made my mission to restore some old rings from my grandmother very easy. Kate offered useful advice and a range of options with no pressure. Extremely pleased with the outcome. Two rings down and one to go...”
